Lewis County to update Hazard Mitigation Plan

July 9, 2026

Lewis County is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The purpose of the plan is to:

  • Recognize, identify and assess hazard risks. Assemble data and analyze: How do hazards affect us and why?
  • Develop a mitigation strategy with actionable solutions. Enhance the ability to recover from disasters with policies and actions that reduce risk and lessen disaster impacts.
  • Provide for public awareness. Educate the public about potential hazards and seek input on how to address risk, and establish partnerships for community resilience.
  • Improve the county’s eligibility for funding assistance. Satisfy FEMA requirements; seek and secure funding for hazard mitigation.

The plan was last approved in 2020 and is due for an update. Visit lewiscountyid.us to view the 2020 plan.

County residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process. Please watch for future opportunities to contribute ideas, review draft updates, and provide feedback.
